Sports Journalism Award

Awarded to the best report, feature story or article that covers sports affairs in the Arab world or in a specific Arab nation, that seek to enrich sports activities in the Arab world, and promote competitiveness and sportsmanship. The submitted work should be characterized by in-depth analysis, creative and coherence of style.

Interviewer of the Year

Young Arab Journalist category

Celebrates innovation and creativity in journalistic coverage among young Arab journalists. The submitted work should be creative and unconventional in term of story angle or offering a solution to the phenomenon through the feature. Nominated journalists should be below 30 years old and work full time for online or print media.

Political Journalism category

Awarded to the best political analysis, editorial, feature or report, which should contain in depth analysis and information, that offers a comprehensive understanding about political issues. The ability to write clearly and coherently, and to back the story with strong data and historical facts related to the topic are key. Added to that, the submitted work should cover a current affair topic, and offer a clear vision of the topic.

Cartoonist category

Awarded to the best caricature published in an Arab newspaper, magazine or online. The submitted work should be original and with ability to clearly convey the message, along with high quality of the drawing.

Columnist category

This category covers opinion writing and other columnists whose work is addressed to a broadsheet readership and can include any subject not catered for specifically by other categories: lifestyle, environment, health, consumer advice, current affairs, etc. the award is for the columnist whose writing is considered the most powerful and impactful.

Media Personality of the year

Celebrates an Arab media personality for his/her contribution in promoting media and journalism across the Arab world or in a specific county or a media outlet, as well for his leading role in developing work process in the organization or creativity and innovation in the journalistic world. The board of directors of the Arab Journalism Award is responsible for granting the Award.

Egyptian journalist, politician and the current Chairman of the State Information Service. Rashwan also served as head of the Egyptian Press Syndicate from 2013 to 2015.

A journalist and media consultant, she is a columnist with Asharq Al Awsat.

He held position of head of journalists syndicate in Palestine, and assistant Secretary General of Federation of Arab Journalists. Currently he held the position deputy editor in chief at Al Ayam newspaper in Ramallah.

Holds a BA in Business Administration from Cairo University, and worked for Al Quds and Addustor newspapers, and UAE Al-Ittihad newspaper. He also works for Alkhaleej and launched the local affairs section in the newspaper. He is a founding member of the Arab Journalism Award, and contributed in the launch of Arab Media Forum.

Former chairman of UAE Journalists Association, and former editor in chief of three local newspapers. He chaired journalists liberties committee in the UAE and committee to defend Arab journalists. He also chairs regional office of International Federation of Journalists among other positions.

A PhD graduate from the American University of Beirut. She is columnist at AlHayat newspaper where she puts emphasis on women and social issues in Saudi Arabia.

Muna Busamra is the editor-in-chief of Dubai-based Al-Bayan newspaper. Muna Busamra worked as Principal Correspondent with Al Ittihad newspaper and was responsible for local news. She also worked for Dubai Press Club where she managed the Arab Journalism Award, and was appointed head of Dubai Press Club in 2013, among many other positions.

Writes a weekly business columnist for Asharq Al-Awsat and for Albayan newspapers. He also write a column about “the art of listening” for “Arrajol” magazine.

Writer and Journalist, and chairman of the UAE Journalists Association since March 2018. He held many positions including Editor-in-Chief of Al Ittihad newspaper and Executive Director of editing and publishing at the Abu Dhabi Media Company. He founded and was Editor-in-Chief of the Arabic edition of National Geographic magazine, and has held numerous positions in journalism since joining Al Ittihad in 1994.

Raed Barqawi is the long serving editor-in-chief of Al Khaleej since 2013. Prior to that He hold the position of deputy editor-in-chief since 2005.

Saudi journalist, and commentator, Almaeena has held a broad range of positions in Saudi media for over thirty years, including CEO of a PR firm, Saudi Television news anchor, talk show host, radio announcer, lecturer and journalist. In 1982, Almaeena became the Editor-in-Chief of Arab News. He stepped down in 1993 to head the Saudi Public Relations (SRPC) a position he held for five years. He returned to the top editor’s post of Arab News in 1998 and continued until October 2011. In April 2012, he joined as the Editor-in-Chief of Saudi Gazette, English daily published from Jeddah and continued in the position until the end of April 2014.

Journalist and columnist in Emarat Al Youm newspaper since 2005. His work focuses on the local affairs. Currently, he is the Editor-in-chief of Emarat Al Youm and previously he worked for Al Bayan newspaper. He also served as Chairman of UAE Journalists Association. He published two books.

OUR HISTORY

20 years of distinguished journalism

The Arab Journalism Awards, launched in 1999, is the region’s most prestigious award recognising journalistic excellence. The award’s main goal is to reward talent, inspire, and stimulate creativity. It is also aimed at enhancing the constructive role of the press in serving the community.

Since its launch under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Arab Journalism Award has helped improve the quality of journalism and media in the Arab world.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid tasked Dubai Press Club to launch the Award, and to put in a place a process to ensure the integrity of the selection criteria, and set an independent board of directors in charge of the Award. Since the launch of the Award, DPC collaborated with Federation of Arab Journalists along with prominent Arab media personalities, to ensure that the integrity of the Award and its comprehensiveness to include all Arab.
